We have a small staff and rely on the time, energy, expertise, effort, and enthusiasm of our volunteers to help fulfill our mission. 
 
Most volunteer roles are in an office or outreach capacity. Volunteer roles include data entry, mail processing, flyer distribution, donation drive organizer, donation transporter, and event and fundraising support.

VOLUNTEER ROLES

Office Volunteer
Help the Project POOCH Community Outreach office with data entry, running errands, answering phones, organizing, and other similar office tasks. This volunteer opportunity is available on weekday mornings and afternoons. This opportunity can be ongoing or for special projects like assisting with the mailing of the newsletter or other needed office tasks. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO GET TO OUR OUTREACH OFFICE IN LAKE OSWEGO FOR THIS TASK. *

Remote Volunteer
Help Project POOCH Community Outreach with data entry, graphic design, data management, and other computer-focused tasks that can be completed remotely. This opportunity can be ongoing or just for special projects. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN COMPUTER AND AN INTERNET CONNECTION. *
Donation Transporter
We partner with area pet supply stores to collect in-kind donations for the supplies we need for the dogs and youth in our program. We also sometimes receive donations that we are unable to use so we take them to other animal rescue organizations. In this role, you would pick up and deliver items. YOU MUST HAVE A CAR TO PERFORM THIS TASK. *
Donation Drive Organizer
We are looking for folks who are interested in coordinating donation drives in their respective communities. Donations of items on our Wish List really help to keep our costs down and allow us to feed high-quality food to our dogs, and provide the equipment and supplies the youth need to care for the dogs in our program. *
Event Volunteer
Project POOCH attends numerous community events to share information about our program, to talk to community members, to sell merchandise, and to occasionally, show adoptable dogs. Most events are on the weekends and are for 3–4 hours. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO GET YOURSELF TO AND FROM EVENTS TO PERFORM THIS ROLE. *
Flyer Distribution
Distribute event and available dog flyers to area businesses. *

VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT

Project POOCH volunteers must agree to the following

I will treat all animals, people, and property I come in contact with at Project POOCH, Inc. with respect.  I will refrain from using profanity and conduct myself with courtesy at all times. *
I will be on time for my scheduled shift. If I am unable to show up as scheduled, I will contact the appropriate person.  *
I will wear a Project POOCH, Inc. shirt while volunteering. Because each volunteer is a representative of Project POOCH, Inc. in the eyes of the public, we ask that volunteers dress appropriately for their position, and refrain from wearing overly revealing clothing. If you have tattoos that may be construed as offensive in nature, we ask that you wear clothing that covers them. *
If I am working in a volunteer role at MacLaren Youth Facility I will wear long pants, close-toed shoes, and refrain from wearing leggings or any type of revealing clothing. *
I give permission to Project POOCH, Inc. to use photographs or video footage of my volunteer activities. *
I understand that as a volunteer I may gain access to information about Project POOCH, Inc., customers, youth, or staff that is confidential.  I agree to maintain confidentiality and to refuse disclosure of any information that is either private or personal. *
I understand that volunteering at Project POOCH, Inc. is at will and that not everyone who applies to volunteer will be accepted.  Active volunteer status at Project POOCH, Inc. may be terminated for any reason, with or without cause or notice, at any time by either parties-the volunteer or Project POOCH, Inc.  I understand that if I have no reported hours for six (6) months, my active status as a volunteer will be removed. *

Waiver, Release, and Indemnification Agreement

This agreement is entered into with Project POOCH, Inc. jointly by the Volunteer noted below in order to permit the Volunteer to participate in the Volunteer program. This Agreement is for the benefit of Project POOCH, Inc. and each of its staff members, employees, officers, directors, agents, and representatives known individually as an “Indemnitee” and collectively as “Indemnitees”).
 
Volunteers have been advised that the activity of working with shelter animals is hazardous and involves contact with animals that are unpredictable. As such, Project POOCH, Inc. cannot be held liable for injuries or accidents that may occur as a result of working with the animals. Volunteers understand that the following are some, but not all, of the risks associated with working with shelter animals:
 
  • Bites or scratches from dogs
  • Being knocked down or pulled excessively by a dog
  • Injuries relating to wrist/hand/fingers from a dog leash
  • Slips/trips/falls resulting from wet floors/kennels or equipment
  • Hitting heads on objects such as cage doors/kennel walls, etc.
  • Water or cleaners sprayed in eyes
  • Injuries resulting from cage doors, equipment, etc.
  • Flea/tick bites or ringworm infestation
  • Internal or external parasites
  • Zoonotic illnesses (human illness contracted from animals)
  • Animal illness exposure to animals at home
  • Injuries related to lifting animals, food, or equipment
  • Injuries caused from grooming equipment-such as clipper blades, shears, driers
  • Exposure to cleaners, latex gloves, bleach, parasite control products
  • Exposure to or incidents relating to the public (outbursts, inappropriate contact)
  • Exposure to or incidents relating to the volunteers (outbursts, inappropriate contact)
  • Loss of personal property
  • Damage to clothing from animals, cages, chemicals, etc.
 
Volunteers are aware that injuries, loss of or damage to personal property, and death may occur as a result of the Volunteer’s participation at the shelter. Volunteers agree Project POOCH, Inc. and Indemnitees shall not be held responsible or liable for any personal injury or other injury, including death; damage, loss, or expense to Volunteer or his/her property, whether or not such injury, death, damage, loss, or expense is caused by the negligence of Project POOCH, Inc., any Indemnitee, or a third party.
 
Volunteers and their heirs, executors, and administrators agree to hold harmless each Indemnitee against any and all manner of legal actions, such as suits, debts, claims, or liability of any kind incurred while the Volunteer participates at the shelter or on home visits.
 
Volunteers fully, completely, and unconditionally waive and release each Indemnitee from all rights, liabilities, duties, claims, charges, demands, actions, damages, costs, attorney fees, or expenses of any kind that Volunteers may have now or in the future against Project POOCH, Inc. or any Indemnitee relating to participation at the shelter.
 
Volunteers represent and warrant that he/she is physically and mentally fit to safely work with animals and the public.
 
Volunteer represents and warrants that Volunteer has current medical insurance coverage and agrees to be responsible for any and all billings and debts incurred with respect to such medical treatment or services.
Volunteers represent and warrant that each of them has the authority to enter into this agreement.
If any provision of this Agreement is found to be unenforceable in any way, it shall be enforced to the maximum extent possible and all other provisions of this Agreement shall remain in full force and effect.
