WOODRIDGE
Fridays, 3:35 to 5:10pm
Starts March 29 and continues to May 24 (no class April 12)
Mondays, 3:00 to 4:30pm (actual time may vary by 5 to 10 minutes)
Starts April 8 and continues to May 20 (one week off tba).
For students who will be in 3rd, 4th, 5th grade.
ELEMENTARY
--Students in 3rd grade should be high academic achievers and be more talkative than peers.
--Students engage in the Elementary Pro-Con format with, typically, 3 or 4 person teams. They will use 4 different topics.
--Students will learn how to debate with step by step instruction and engage in practice debates with extensive feedback.
--Students typically need to spend 30 to 60 minutes to prepare for each class day (except no preparation needed for the first day).
Middle School Debate Program
ST. BENEDICT
Mondays 3:00 to 4:45pm (actual time may vary by 5 to 10 minutes)
Starts April 8 and continues to May 20 (one week off tba).
For students who will be in 6th, 7th, 8th grade.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
--Students engage in the Public Forum Debate format with 2 person teams. They will use 1 topic on the UN Security Council.
--Students will learn how to debate with step by step instruction and engage in practice debates with extensive feedback.
--Students typically need to spend 30 to 60 minutes to prepare for each class day (except no preparation needed for the first day and more preparation for the second and third classes).
--Students need to read during their speeches as arguments in this format need to be supported by direct quotes from experts (mostly in the students' first of 2 speeches)
