About us

Tes Institute is a leading provider of online courses and programmes with a particular focus on teacher training and development. We have a wealth of experience in the education sector and our Initial Teacher Training Programme (School Direct and Assessment Only ITT) is accredited by The National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL). We have been praised by Ofsted for the quality of our training across the partnership.

Tes Institute, inspected under the June 2014 two-stage Ofsted framework, received an overall grade of ‘Good’ for its work in securing consistently high-quality outcomes for its trainees.

Straight to Teaching

Our QTS development programme, Straight to Teaching, is designed to help existing school staff become qualified teachers through a bespoke QTS preparation programme. Programmes run in Primary and all main Secondary subjects and the length ranges from 1-5 terms, depending on the learner’s existing experience.

Pathway Tutors are expected to work with a school mentor in supporting the learner’s development by providing regular guidance, feedback and support online. They will also be responsible for creating a personalised QTS preparation programme for their learners during an initial needs assessment. The tutor will visit their learner at least once a term in school.

You can find out more about the programme here.

Assessment Only

Our Assessment Only route is for unqualified teachers with a degree and significant teaching experience. The learner should be almost fully prepared to meet the Teaching Standards and will be enrolled following a Pathway Tutor Enrolment Visit to confirm eligibility. The learner will be guided by their Pathway Tutor to finalise evidence and prepare for their final QTS Assessment.

You can find out more about the programme here.

International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (iPGCE)

The International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (iPGCE) is a blended learning programme that helps further the careers of education professionals working outside the UK.

Validated by the University of East London, Tes Institute’s iPGCE takes one academic year to complete and leads to the award of an International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (iPGCE).

It is delivered through a mix of online and school-based learning, face-to-face development and in-country tutor support (dependent upon your location).

Pathway Tutors give online feedback on student reflections relating to online sessions they have studied, lesson observations carried out by the school and mentor meetings. Tutors are also expected to mark two assignments and to make one visit to see the student during their second term on the programme.
