Pathway Tutor Application Form

Tes Institute, part of Tes Global, is one of the largest providers in England of Initial Teacher Training (ITT), Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE), and professional development and leadership training. We provide high quality but flexible approaches to learning, designed to help school staff teach and lead with confidence.

You should have experience of:

  • working in a leadership position within an education setting (typically in schools or a wider organisation that provides support to schools such as Local Authorities or academy chains in an ‘education advisor’ capacity)
  • working with trainee teachers and/or ECTs, including making judgements against the Teachers' Standards and in providing advice and support to develop practice
  • observing teaching and learning and providing expert verbal and written feedback to develop practice
  • working professionally with school staff at all levels from headteacher to trainee teacher.

Which of our programmes are you interested in applying for? *

Straight to Teaching

Our QTS development programme, Straight to Teaching, is designed to help existing school staff become qualified teachers through a bespoke QTS preparation programme. Programmes are available in Primary and all main Secondary subjects and the length ranges from 1-5 terms, depending on the learner’s existing experience.

Pathway Tutors are expected to work with a school mentor in supporting the learner’s development by providing regular guidance, feedback and support online. They will also be responsible for creating a personalised QTS preparation programme for their learners during an initial needs assessment. The tutor will visit their learner at least once a term in school.

Assessment Only

Our Assessment Only route is for unqualified teachers with a degree and significant teaching experience. The learner should be almost fully prepared to meet the Teaching Standards and will be enrolled following a Pathway Tutor Enrolment Visit to confirm eligibility. The learner will be guided by their Pathway Tutor to finalise evidence and prepare for their final QTS Assessment.

Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE)

These 100% online programmes are available to anyone with a conditional offer on a teacher training programme in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Modern Languages, Computing Biology and Geography who needs to enhance their subject knowledge before starting ITT. Funding from the NCTL is available to eligible trainees. Programme lengths range from 8-32 weeks.

Pathway Tutors are expected to mentor trainees online (with no in-school visits) throughout their SKE programme. They will coach their subject knowledge and skill development and support their progress.

Subject Knowledge Enhancement for Teachers (SKEfT) programmes for existing teachers

Tes Institute offers a range of 100% online SKE programmes for existing teaching staff who are looking to improve their knowledge or teach in an additional subject. They are available in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Modern Languages and Computing, consisting of 12 online on-demand sessions. All of our SKE for Teachers programmes follow a similar structure and are estimated to take 32 weeks to complete on a part-time basis.

Pathway Tutors are expected to support the teacher’s learning for 32 weeks, although the teacher will have access to content for an entire year. Courses are 100% online so tutors will not be expected to visit in school.
