General Engagement Letter for Individual/Business Tax Return Preparation
 
Thank you for choosing us and taking the time to complete your 2021 Client Intake Form. For new clients, this information is critical to ensure we accurately file your tax return. Existing clients, we kindly request you provide this information again to ensure our records are 100% accurate and up to date to assure there are no discrepancies that may delay the processing of your tax return or prompt an audit. 

IMPORTANT  

Upon completing all required sections of this intake form, you must click the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the form. If you do not, the information will not transmit to our office. Closing your web browser before completion will prevent your intake form transmission to our office.

Please allow up to 25 minutes for the completion of this form. Please gather all required documents for submission. 

A valid, unexpired state-issued photo identification card to comply with federal and state identity theft protection efforts during your engagement is required.

 

This letter informs the taxpayer of the services we will provide you and your responsibilities for preparing your tax return.

Please be aware that this tax season, there are a lot of new laws and credits that will impact your tax refund. Please read all questions carefully. The input of the wrong information can result in a refund delay by the IRS.


Tax Return Preparation
• We will prepare your 2021 federal and state tax returns based on the information you provide. Services for preparation of your return do not include auditing or verification of information provided by you.
 
• This engagement does not include any audit or examination of your books or records. If your return is audited, you will be responsible for verifying the items reported; please keep your business separately. It's considered commingling when you mix business and personal profits and deductions.  
 
• The tax return preparation fee does not include bookkeeping.
 
• Fees charged for tax return preparation do not include audit representation or preparing materials to respond to correspondence from taxing authorities.
 
• Preparation fees do cover limited assistance and consultation during the year.
 
• The engagement to prepare your 2021 tax returns terminates upon delivery of your completed returns and original documents to you. Please store your supporting documents and copies of your tax returns in a secure place for at least seven years.

Taxpayer Responsibilities
• You agree to provide us with all income and deductible expense information. If you receive additional information after we begin working on your return, you will contact us immediately to ensure your completed tax returns contains all relevant information.
 
• You affirm that all expenses or other deduction amounts are accurate and that you have all required supporting written records. In some cases, we will ask you to review your documentation.
 
• You must be able to provide written records of all items included on your return if it's audited by either the IRS or state tax authority. We can provide guidance concerning what evidence is acceptable.
 
• You must review the return carefully before signing to ensure the information is correct. (Name, Address, Social Security, bank account, and all relevant to your tax information. 
 
• Fees will be deducted from your tax refund. If your tax return is offset or mailed to you, you are still required to pay the tax preparation fees, or legal action will be taken against you.
 
Signatures.
By signing below, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and accepted your obligations and responsibilities and that you understand our responsibilities in preparing your tax returns as explained above. For a joint return, both taxpayers must sign.
 
• You should keep a copy of your tax return and any related tax documents. You may be assessed a fee if you request a copy in the future.

The nature of our work requires us to collect certain nonpublic personal information about you from various sources. We collect financial and personal information from applications, worksheets, reporting statements, and other forms, as well as interviews and conversations with our clients and affiliates. We may also review banking and credit card information about our clients in the performance of receipt of payment. Under our policy, all information we obtain about you will be provided or obtained with your permission. Our firm has procedures and policies in place to protect your confidential information. We restrict your confidential information to those within our firm who need to provide you with services. We will not disclose your personal information to any third party without your express permission, except where required by law. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards in compliance with federal regulations that protect your personal information from unauthorized access.
