Habits of Self-Directed Learning Assessment

Each child is unique, as can be the educational environment in which they learn.

Perduco, which requires the ability of a child to play an active role in his or her learning, may or may not be conducive to establishing an exceptional learning experience for your child.

The Habits of Self-Directed Learning assessment is an informal assessment, which can inform an important conversation around the qualities, characteristics, and habits of learning of your child.

If your child scores low, the assessment MAY indicate that your child will find it difficult and challenging to learn at Perduco. If he or she scores high, it MAY indicate he or she has developed the habits necessary to be successful in a self-directed learning environment.

Current members of Perduco, ages 8-17, take this assessment on a weekly basis to reflect on the development of these habits.

Wrapping up the more academically focused part of our program (mornings, 8:30 - 11:30), I recently asked the kids the following question during our usual post-morning reflection:

What qualities and characteristics are needed to be a successful member of Perduco?

Each member in attendance contributed at least one response:

- maturity and toughness

- the ability to think critically

- flexibility

- social awareness

- patience

- ambition, a desire to learn and grow

- the ability to be independent

- self-motivation and perseverance
