Emerging Eagles Mentor
2017-2018 Application

General Information

The Florida Gulf Coast University Emerging Eagles Program is an introductory leadership program geared towards first-year students. The program utilizes mentors to facilitate weekly lessons and to mentor their small group of participants. 

Through interactive workshops, small group discussions, and practical application, the program allows students to connect with their peers and develop skills in a safe and challenging environment. As an Emgering Eagles participant, students will learn:

  • How to understand their dominant leadership style through leadership personality tests
  • How to utilize their individual styles to the best of their ability and the put those strengths into action 
  • Be challenged to actively reflect and share their thoughts and experience in large and small group settings.
  • Engage in activities which will stretch their knowledge and require collaboration with diverse individuals
  • Develop the tools necessary to become an active, engaged leader on-campus and in the community

Emerging Eagle Mentors Program is a year-long commitment. Applicants must have previously served as an Emerging Eagles mentee and completed the program. If selected, applicants must be able to participate in an interview the first week of fall classes with the Coordinator, Director, and Assitant Director of Leadership Development.If chosen, mentors must commit to weekly Monday sessions from 5:00p-9:00 pm during the fall 2017 semester as well as in the spring 2018 semester. The program will begin with a training session on Saturday, Septemeber 2nd  from 10:00a-4:00p, both of which are mandatory. In addition to these meetings, it is imperative that a mentor can commit to a weekly meeting with the Student Government Director of Leadership Development unless they have a scheduled class or work. There are also other events that may be required for mentors to attend but that is to be decided when the time comes. 

Emerging Eagles Fall 2017  mentor retreat and program sessions are listed below and are mandatory:

Saturday, September 2nd –   Emerging Eagles Mentor training session 10 am to 4:00 pm location TBD

Saturday,Septemeber 23rd-  Emerging Eagles Mentee Orientation 10am-4pm location TBD 

Sunday, Septemeber 24th - Emerging Eagles Ropes Course -time TBD

Weekly meetings for mentors will be before and after each Emerging Eagles Session |  Emerging Eagles Sessions are Monday nights from 6:00-8:00pm. Mentors will meet from 5:00-9:00 Monday nights
