IMPORTANT PV’11 NOTICE
September 20, 2010
As General Chairman of the PV ’11 Race, it is my responsibility to inform you of the latest action of the PV ’11 Executive Committee. After much discussion and careful deliberation, it was the decision of the Committee to postpone the PV ’11 Race until conditions for successfully staging a long-distance Regatta are more favorable.
- Due to the uncertain economy, we do not have enough paid entries to warrant the time and expense of running a race of this kind.
- Going hand in hand with the economic situation, it has been difficult to get sponsorships and ads even with the help of a professional sponsorship company.
- The Mexican Airline bankruptcy has also discouraged many of our members, including key chairmen, from participating in this race. The resultant increase in air fares makes the cost extremely difficult for many who desire to participate in the activities in Puerto Vallarta.
- The difficulty of obtaining escort vessels has also created additional problems for starting and finishing the four races and coordinating the communications, computations and parties in route.
- The perceived problem of “Mexican Violence” was also very discouraging.
In summation, the PV ’11 Executive Committee felt it would be financially irresponsible to continue past this point in preparation for this race. In conclusion, I would like to thank my PV ’11 Race Committee; the skippers of those boats who have already entered; our sponsors; ad participants; those who have donated to the silent auction and raffle; and the membership, the Bridge, and the Board of DRYC for all their support. I would like to further state that the Committee has tried very hard to figure out how this Race could continue as planned, but the final conclusion is that this postponement is the best decision to make at this time. I look forward to 2012 and the future success and long standing tradition of the DRYC PV Race.
Sincerely,
Gary Deitsch
Vice Commodore DRYC and
General Race Chairman-PV ‘11
