Dear 189A Supporters and Animal Advocates,
GREAT NEWS! NYC Council Member Tony Avella has introduced a NEW Pets in Housing
Bill, called Intro No. 13.
We know there has been a lot of frustration trying
to pass previous pets in housing bills, but this one has the best chance yet
of passing!
Intro No. 13 is similar to Intro No. 189A in that it states that once a landlord
waives a no-pet clause, a tenant can replace a deceased or relocated pet with
another pet of the same species, but this provision now applies only to rental
tenants. (Of course, we wanted co-ops to remain in the bill, but this was the
issue that was stopping it from passing. By covering renters, this is an important
first step in protecting the rights of people to share their lives with companion
animals and opening up countless homes for homeless animals.)

It's a matter of LIFE OR DEATH for thousands of adoptable cats and
dogs needlessly killed each year simply due to lack of homes.
It's a matter of TENANTS' RIGHTS to live with animal companions.
